Winner Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, and his poetry has appeared in \u003cem data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eBest American Poetry.\u003c\/em\u003e Since 2000 he has served as the poetry editor for the \u003cem data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eNorth Carolina Literary Review,\u003c\/em\u003e selecting the finalists for the annual James Applewhite Poetry Prize.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eHe received his MFA and Ph.D. from the University of Florida and works as a professor of English at the University of Colorado Denver, teaching mostly the history of the English novel and critical theory and writing. His recent scholarly books are \u003cem data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe Lotus and the Lion: Buddhism and the British Empire\u003c\/em\u003e (2008) and \u003cem data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eSpirit Matters: Occult Beliefs, Alternative Religions, and the Crisis of Faith in Victorian Britain\u003c\/em\u003e (2018), both from Cornell University Press.
